Abstract
:
The objective of an image compression algorithm is to exploit the redundancy in an image such that a smaller number of bits can be used to represent the image while maintaining an ``acceptable'' visual quality for the decompressed image. The redundancy of an image resides in the correlation of neighboring pixels. For a color image, there also exists correlation, which can be exploited, between the color components. In this paper we presented the classifications of image coders.
