Abstract
:
Electrodialysis process represents one of the widely applied techniques for desalting of brackish water. The control of the quality of the product necessitates changing tile current density in tile electrodialysis stack to achieve the required desalting action. A limiting current value must not be exceeded so as to prevent adverse effects of concentration polarization. This paper aims at establishing a computer based control system for electrodialysis process using both PI & Rule Based control system as well as the comparison between them. The mathematical models for steady stale & transient stale [or the electrodialysis process at specified conditions arc developed. Analog simulation of this process is implemented and tested. A current protection program based on the look up table technique is constructed to represent the non-linear relation between the current & the flow rate of water in the ED cell. Digital controllers based on PI action and rule based logic action are developed. The comparison between PI control & the rule based control is made based on step response characteristics, for the investigated conditions. The response of the rule based controller is faster than that of the PI controller.
